A Guide to Outdoor Events in Milan

And with one click you’ve stumbled onto a concise guide to outdoor events in Milan. You’ll discover invaluable information such as which area to host them, how to get there, where to stay, and much more. We’re both happy and jealous of you. Now, let’s get right to it!

The Best Areas in Milan to Host Outdoor Events

  • Centre – The centre of Milan is defined by the iconic cathedral known as the Duomo. It’s the largest church in Italy and ranks an impressive 5th largest in the world. This area is packed full of great attractions such as the Galleria Vittorio, the oldest shopping mall in Italy. You also have the Fashion District, the Royal Palace and much more!
  • Navigli – For more laidback affairs, we recommend Navigli. Its boundaries are marked by two canals, the Naviglio Grande and the Naviglio Pavese. It is a great social centre with tons of great bars and restaurants. It has a fantastic open market and buildings defined by bright rustic colours.
  • Città Studi – Città Studi is a vibrant and young district of Milan located within the Zone 3 administrative division. This is the home of the cities main universities and the culture and rhythm of the place reflect that in a very charming way.

How to Get to Your Outdoor Event in Milan

Milan’s public transport is run by ATM. It’s an elegant one ticket system that you’ll find very accessible.  A single ticket on the metro, tram or bus will cost you €1.50 and is valid for 90 minutes. We recommend buying a carnet. It’s 10 single tickets for the price of €13.80. Alternatively, you can buy a 24-hour pass for €4.50 or a 48-hour pass for €8.25.

The bus network covers the entire city, which is convenient because the tram and the metro don’t quite cover all of the map. The bus network has 80 different lines to get you where you need to be.

The metro only has 3 lines, and they run from 6 AM to 12:30 AM. If you miss the last one, you can always get the night bus, however. And if you want to get out of the inner city, then the S-trains are the quickest and best way to do it.

If you’d perfect to get a taxi you need to know two things. First, you can’t hail them on the street. You need to wait for them at designated taxi stands or call them from designated dispatch phones. And secondly, in the case you call one from the phones, the meter starts running when the driver leaves to pick you up.

Our final suggestion is there’s no substitute for a good walk. And as it happens, Milan is a great walking city. Especially in the centre. The major attractions and places of interest are close together, and the city has a great aura for you to soak in as you meander through it.
