A Guide to Outdoor Events in Lisbon
The Best Areas in Lisbon to Host Outdoor events
- Alcântara – So Alcântara isn’t technically part of the city. But if you ask any local, it’s as part of Lisbon as any other neighbourhood. It sits by the river Tagus. Down by the dock you have lots of bars, and in the rejuvenated LX Factory District you’ve got vibrant offices, shopping, and restaurants. You’ll find a great variation in outdoor venues here, from poolside terraces to homely patios.
- Graça and São Vicente – Graça and São Vicente are two of the most charming and oldest neighbourhoods of this old and charming city. You’ll get remarkable views of the river, as well as iconic landmarks such as the National Pantheon and the Igreja de São Vicente. The streets are tight and atmospheric and are full of antique shops and open markets. Outdoor venues here are generally smaller, but make up for it in magical Lisbon character.
- Avenida da Liberdade – Avenida da Liberdade is a sweeping 19th century boulevard. It’s regal, and well to do, full of fancy hotels, designer shops, and a whole lot of grandeur in between. It has manicured green spaces and palm trees to accentuate that exotic feel. Outdoor events here are most definitely stately and a show of luxury, typically on premium rooftop terraces.
How to Get to Your Outdoor Event in Lisbon
Some cities have metro maps that give you a sore head at first sight. Lisbon has four metro lines, which means you don’t need to take half an hour to make sense of the network map. To make things easy, each line has its own colour and is named after the terminal station.
One thing you have to admire about Lisbon’s metro system is its intuitiveness. Unlike some cities where it takes half an hour to decipher which line is going where, Lisbon has 4 lines, each with its own colour.
It runs from 6.30 am to 1 am daily. It’s relatively cheap as well, with a 24-hour pass costing €6 and a single costing only €1.90. For a more comprehensive reach of all the city’s corners, the bus network has you covered, it goes everywhere and anywhere and costs only €1.80 for a single.
And finally, there are the iconic Cacilheiro ferries. There are three ferry terminals sitting on the mighty river Tagus, which are all interconnected with the bus and metro network. The Cacilheiro will take you to the southern bank of the river to places like Cacilhas, Seixal and Montijo and only costs you €1.25 for a single!
