A Guide to Outdoor Events in Amsterdam
The Best Areas in Amsterdam to Host Outdoor Events
Amsterdam Noord (Amsterdam North) – Across the river from the city centre you have the North. It’s new, it’s growing, and it’s exciting. What’s more, it’s a focal point for art, culture, fun, and the future. Outdoor events here are usually rustic, edgy, and have premier views of the old city.
Amsterdam Centrum (Central) – The centre is a series of picturesque canals and grand buildings from the city’s Golden Age. You’ll hear the gentle chime of bikes throughout and you can walk everywhere. Outdoor events here are surprisingly intimate and always classy.
Oud-Zuid (Old South) – Old South is the epitome of affluence. It hosts the renowned museum district and is home to the city’s best boutiques and fine dining restaurants. Outdoor events here are spacious and full of old-world charisma.
How to Get to Your Outdoor Event in Amsterdam
The public transport in Amsterdam is operated by GVB, and they offer you travel by metro, trams, trains, busses and ferries. You can purchase an OV chip card and top it up as you go or get an hour or day pass (1-7 days). Alternatively, you can just use contactless payments.
And to cross the river to the North of the city, you can get the ferry, drive, take the metro, or the bus. Aside from the ferry, everything gets there by going under the water. There are no bridges if you can believe it. But guess what, the ferry is free!
And finally, when in Rome, do as the Romans do. Translated in this context it means when in Amsterdam, ride a bike! The roads are built specifically for cycling and they rule the road here. And it might be hard to believe, but cycling is sometimes quicker than public transport or by car.

The Weather in Amsterdam
The weather in Northern Europe sometimes feels like the roll of the dice. But thankfully, the weather in Amsterdam is actually quite good. Especially in the spring and the summer. For example, in the high summer, you can expect an average high of up to 22°C.
And besides, even if you have to suffer a light shower, most outdoor venues in Amsterdam will come with ample protection from the elements. And if not, you could always rent patio heaters from Party Tent Ver Huur and a marquee from Massen Tenten.
